Shri AnirbanDasgupta is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, BHU graduated inB.Tech Metallurgical Engineering.He started his career in Centre for Engineering & Technology (CET) of SAIL in Aug’1986. During his stint in CET, Shri Dasgupta worked onmany important projects in SAIL including collaborating with M/s. Mckinsey& Company for restructuring of SAIL, formulation of SAIL’s Corporate Plan 2005 & 2012, preparation of blueprint for the revival of IISCO Steel Plant before its amalgamation into SAIL. Subsequently, he worked in Chairman’s Secretariat, SAIL from Oct’ 2010 to Aug’ 2017, where he was instrumental in various successful missions.
In Sept’ 2017 Shri Dasgupta was elevated to the post of Chief Executive Officerof IISCO Steel Plant (ISP). ISP progressed towards achieving rated capacities and the Plant’s performance witnessed turnaround. He was given additional charge of Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and Alloy Steel Plant (ASP) of SAIL in Oct’2018.
In June, 2019 Shri Dasgupta was posted as Chief Executive Officer, Bhilai Steel Plantwith additional charge as CEO, DSP and ASP. Subsequently,in Feb’ 2020 he was appointed as Director (Projects & Business Planning) with additional charge of CEO, BSP. As a result of reorganization of the SAIL board he was appointed as Director Incharge, BSP in Sept’ 2020 and he continues to hold this charge since then.
Shri Dasgupta assumed the charge of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) as Chief Executive Officer at a time when the Plant was in a transition period with the phasing out units and the new MODEX units coexisting while grappling with the issues of ramp up, ageing older units, declining production & profitability etc. Gradually as a result of strategic interventions, production from the new units started ramping up and the plant made rapid progress in production and productivity. All the MODEX units achieved best ever yearly production in 2019-20 and again bettered these records in the year 2020-21 and the uptrend continues.
The product portfolio ofSAIL-BSP has been enrichedwiththe introduction of various new & differentiated products like SAIL SEQR TMT wire rods offering best quality assurance,R-260 grade Rails with highly intricate new profile 60E1 which surpassesEuropean standards.Successful Rolling of MIDHANI slabs for Satellite Launch Vehicles (SLVs), development of IRS Grade B Plates for making Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) for Indian Navy and stabilisation of flash butt welding process for corrosion resistant Rails were also some instances of significant productdevelopment projectsachieved under his guidance. As part of process optimisation,flyingtundishoperation in 105 square billet was yet another feather in the cap of BSP which has set a world benchmark.
He is currently also Chairman of SAIL’s subsidiary company SAIL Refractory Company Limited (SRCL) and Chhattisgarh Mega Steel Ltd (CMSL), besides being/having been a Director on the boards of TRL Krosaki, BJCL and SAIL-MOIL joint venture.
